PP1/Kindy C Spring News!

Welcome back to PP1! The kindy and pre-primary children have been so busy since the last blog. I hardly know where to start!
It was International Science Week recently and we did some interesting things to celebrate. My personal favourite was a bush walk in the school grounds. Camboon is very fortunate to have a large strip of natural bush in our South-Eastern corner. The children were able to safely explore with their magnifying glasses. The only sounds were their happy chatter and the reply from parrots! The reports from this field trip were detailed and colourful.
We have made natural plastic and salt crystals with varying degrees of success! The children who were able to use the microscope were very excited at seeing the crystals. It takes a lot of coordination to look with one eye!
We have a science area set up which includes a 'dark room' where torches can be put to great effect and 'glow in the dark' dinosaurs amaze wide eyes!
We are now learning about space. Miss Vinicombe is showing the children how the sun produces shadows which change at different times of the day.

On Tuesday, 30th August, The lady from AWCH will visit the kindy children and show them what happens when you visit hospital. There will be fun activities for them including bandaging dolls and riding in a wheel chair.
We will continue to concentrate on correct pencil hold and also move onto correct posture while writing - look out for the parent display.
In our quest to have a friendly classroom, we have introduced 'compliments'. The children are very enthused and have startled quite a few visitors in their eagerness to be welcoming!!!

August News Kindy C & PP1

Welcome back to Camboon in term 3. I enjoyed seeing the children's eager faces when they returned from their two weeks break. One of the joys of teaching!
The first two weeks have whizzed passed. The pre primaries had 'A Farmyard on Wheels' visit. The piglet stole the limelight, as usual. Thanks Mrs J for feeding him his baby bottle! Farmer Mick entertained us with his patient band of animals. The kindy children can look forward to the farm next year and to our AWCH visit in week 6. (Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital)
Pushing each other in the wheelchair is usually the favourite activity! More news about AWCH soon.
The children are all working very well. We are well on the way to making a 'Friendly Classroom' and this week Jayden is our first child to visit Mr Jashari because he has a whole row of stickers on the Friendly Classroom chart. Mr Jashari will put Jayden's name in his 'good book'. When Jayden has his name in the book 5 times, he can choose something from the prize cupboard!!!
The children enjoyed acting out Australian animals today. We had some catchy music to 'dance' to. Tomorrow we will look at some examples of aboriginal art and have a try at creating something similar.

We welcome Danielle Vinnicombe from ECU. Danielle will be with us every Tuesday and Wednesday in Term 3 and full time for the first five weeks of Term 4. She is a Post Graduate student studying Education. She would love to say hello to you.
I will be working with the children on improving fine motor skills and correct pencil hold. Have a look at the Parent Display table for some hints on what you can do at home to help your child in this area.
Over the school holidays I purchased Steve and Shaaron Biddulph's book - Raising a Happy Child. They suggest Tiddly Winks as a great way to strengthen hand muscles ready for handwriting. This and other suggestions can be found on the Parent Display table.
Our sunflower house is looking superb! Mr Bovell, our gardener, has taken down the protective fence and the children are able to go inside the 'house'. He has also carefully trimmed the lawn so that we can sit in there! The parrots LOVE our sunflower house but we don't mind because we are learning about Australian wildlife.

Welcome to Preprimary 1/ Kindy C.
You will be pleased to hear we are still busy! We had a wonderful time learning about all the different types of vehicles. Did you know there are domestic, transport, working, emergency and space vehicles? We had fun learning how to sew a vehicle. The teachers got very excited!! The pre primary children made a working vehicle book with Mrs J on Thursday. They are going to choose a kindy kid from Miss Miller's class and read it to them, on Monday 13th June.
Parents, you can click on the fortnight plan which is attached. The plan shows what is happening in all areas and will give you ideas on how you can help your child. I use the theme as a focus for all the social, physical, literacy and numeracy skills that a child will learn in kindy and preprimary.

Come together K day was wonderful. It made my day when one little girl remarked, 'I'm having so much fun!' I will post some photos, as promised, when we have permission from all parents.
The pre-primary children were so mature in helping the younger children I rewarded them with popcorn and Playschool's On The Move when the kindy children had gone home for the afternoon. Erin was in charge of showing each pre-primary child how to take photos of their group. She did a marvellous job.
The pre-primary and kindergarten children are doing a wonderful job of writing in their diaries.
Each day we choose a relevant topic and illustrate a picture about it. Some children are doing pretend writing, some children are writing all the letters they know, some children are sounding out some words that they know and some children are writing sentences. All of these stages are normal for Kindy and Pre-primary. The children are immersed in the language of literacy everyday - at school and at home. We teach them to make the connection between oral language and written language.
Fun at home: Talk to your child about what you do at work. If you do not go out to work, talk about Grandad's work or Aunty's work. If you are able, take your child to see where you work.
Model and discuss, with your child, the different types of reading that you do. All types are important but each has a different purpose. A recipe helps you to make a cake, the newspaper helps you to find out what is happening, you read a novel for interest and you read a shopping list to help you remember why you are at the shops!

Welcome to Preprimary 1/ Kindy C.
We have been busy this term learning about Shapes, Families and now Vehicles. You can click on the fortnight plan which is attached. The plan shows what is happening in all areas and will give you ideas on how you can help your child. I use the theme as a focus for all the social, physical, literacy and numeracy skills that a child will learn in kindy and preprimary.

The children may have talked to you about their 'plans'. To make concepts easier to understand and more fun to learn, I present them in different ways. Ways that are more appropriate to each child. To do this I use a theory called The Multiple Intelligences. This theory was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, a prominent psychologist at Harvard University. Dr Gardner identified eight different ways of learning or intelligences. Your child possesses each intelligence, but each one varies in strength. For example, your child might be strong in one or two areas and not as strong in others.
Dr. Gardner identified the following intelligences.
Linguistic (word smart); Musical (music smart); Logical-Mathematical (number smart); Spatial (Picture smart); Bodily-Kinesthetic (body smart); Naturalist (Nature smart); Interpersonal (people smart) and Intrapersonal (self-smart).
I have sets of drawers for the 'intelligences' that I direct the children to use through their 'action plan'. The plan also has other activities for each child.

Thank you to all the parents who have come on roster. As you can imagine there is always plenty to do! It is a good opportunity to see how your child learns in the kindy/preprimary setting. Most parents are surprised at how much we do in half a day.
Edudance is going really well for the Preprimary children. Mrs Sherra is a very vibrant lady and gets everyone enthused. I just have to remember I'm not as young as I used to be!! I'm sure you will love the concert at the end of term.
On Wednesday, 1st June I have organised the Come Together K Day! where the three kindy classes will meet and celebrate being a kindy kid! We will have some fun activities. Keep watching the blog for some pics of the day.
Fun at home: Your child could help make a picture book of transportation by cutting pictures out of magazines, adverts or newspapers.
We are comparing modes of transport at school - you could do this while out in the car.

Mrs Rawson wants to say a big "THANK YOU" to everyone for making her last day at Camboon a wonderful day. Especially the staff for the lovely morning tea and the gluten free goodies, a special thank you, to Mrs Ienco for the yummy orange and almond cake you made it was delicious!

Thank you also, to the guitar playing students who performed 2 songs in the new staffroom, they were just lovely and played expertly by Max, Jana and Tonya.

Thank you to all the classes for the brilliant leaving book of memories. Each class did such a superb job making a page for my book, there were some beautiful pages and some very moving comments in the book. I will cherish it, it is a wonderful keepsake. Thank you to you all.

And finally a big thank you to all the staff for the support and friendship you have shown me. It means a lot to me. You are all very talented people you all do such a great job, the school is very lucky to have such talented people!

I will miss you ALL!

Miss Monamy makes the Headlines!

Our very own Miss Monamy has appeared in a local newspaper, as she prepares to take to the stage in a new production called Company. We all wish her well with the show. We are sure she will have rave reviews, as she plays Marta, one of the leading roles.

New in the Library

We now a wonderful new comic stand for all your comic fun. There is also a selection of girl's comics too, so the girls will not miss out.

The stand is located at the end of the lexile bookcase. Enjoy!

Welcome to a New Year 2011

We welcome all staff, students and families to a new year at Camboon Primary school. We have 3 new classrooms this year. Room 12 will be Mr Watt's classroom, Room 17 will be Mrs Howard's classroom and Room 8 will be Mrs Drezner's new classroom.

All classes will be adding their class news to this blog so remember to check back regularly.

New Library now operational!

Our new library has finally had the computer switches installed thanks to Ryan at TFX and we are now ready to issue books. So all students will be back to borrowing from Monday 12th September! Yippee I hear you all say! Also, we will not need books returning during the holidays, so you will be able to keep your book to read, but remember to bring it back with you on your first library lesson back.

It has been a long drawn out process waiting for the new library and the undercovered assembly area to be finished. We would like to thank the Australian Government for our wonderful new buildings,which are part of the "Building the Education Revolution" project. Thank you also to all the tradesmen that worked tirelessly on our new buildings, they look superb!

Book Fair in the Library - Thank you Mrs Hondros!

We would like to thank Mrs Katie Hondros for doing a superb job with our Book Fair. She was kept busy every morning and after school on Wednesday to Friday. She did an awsome job raising money for new books for our library and thank you to Mr Paul Huxham who helped out too! A big Thank you from Mrs Rawson, all the students, staff and parents.

We are now using the new library for classes however, we are not yet up and running with the computers so we cannot "zap" your books yet, hopefully this will not be too much longer.

Why not take a look at a few pictures taken in the new library, with the books in place, to see how it is taking shape.

Book Week In The Library

All the classes came into the library to work on their "Across the story bridge" picture. Firstly, though they had to traverse across the story bridge to get into the library! (A big thank you to Phenomenon Event Hire company for the hire of the ropes and poles)

Room 1 helped make another story bridge by making the bricks for Goldilocks and the Three Bears bridge

New Library

A news update on the new library! It is still not completely finished, although it now has doors and windows! We will hopefully be in the new Library next term! Yippee!!
